upy University (at #occupydamestreet)

On the 8th of October approximately 100 brave souls began what is intended to be an ongoing occupation of the plaza outside the Central Bank in Dublin city centre. This blog is from a Real Democracy Now activist involved in maintaining and strengthening the occupation. I don’t speak on behalf of #occupydamestreet

  • On the 15th of October people from all over the World will take to the streets to express our outrage at the loss of our rights at the hands of big corporations, financial institutions and the political class. #occupydamestreet and Real Democracy Now! Ireland invite you to participate in this international protest. Join us at the Garden of Remembrance on Saturday the 15th at 2pm. We intend marching to the site of the ongoing Dame Street occupation. There we will hold an open forum in which you can share your opinions and proposals for regarding the state of our ‘democracy’, the financial system and the ongoing attacks on social welfare and public services in Ireland. We intend to celebrate and build on the (what will be by then) week long occupation of the environs of the Central Bank. Come share food and music with us and think about joining the occupation. YES WE CAMP! No Political Party Literature / No Violence / No Drugs / No Alcohol On Site of #occupydamestreet

  • Poetry Anti-Slam at #occupydamestreet: Friday14th 9.30 pm (note time change)

Some of Ireland’s premiere performance poets will be providing some words of wisdom for troubled times at the #occupydamestreet camp on Friday 14th October at 8pm. Dave Lordan is curating the event.

Line up so far for this counter-literature event includes Karl Parkinson, Colm Keegan, Stephen James Smith, Kerrie OBrien, Erin Fornoff and Sarah Clancy, .  A late addition Lisa Marie Johnson.

These folks are the  most politicized names in the performance poetry scene  and it will be great hardcore entertainment for sure.

  • DISINFORMATION TROLL AT ‘WE ARE CHANGE’ FACEBOOK PAGE

The ‘Statement’ below was posted on WE ARE CHANGE, IRELAND Facebook page at around 8 on Tuesday 11th of October. It is complete disinformation meant to delegitimize the occupation and is NOT a statement from #occupydamestreet / Please be proactive in zapping this trolling.

We are Change, Ireland Statement from #OccupyDameStreet: We the people of Eire, demand a sovereign republic, free of corporpate control. We demand control of all natural resources within our land and sea borders. We demand a setting up of a non-usurious national bank, printing debt-free money and acting as a utility for the people only. We demand a court system acting under a natural system of law which …mirrors the Brehon system of our ancestors. We demand all corporations be held accountable for all serious breach of the law. We demand all men/women on this Island have access to the freedoms that were the original intention of the creation of the Republic.

Brilliant all day.Couldn’t believe that the local restaurants were donating food - would love to find out who they were. Lots of food and really great food at that. I was amazed to meet people from as far away as Cape Clear, and Ballyhea (north Cork). Not only have they travelled across the country but are sleeping in tents outside the bank. I am so heartened!
